To all of the avid bloggers who visit our blog regularly to see what is going on, only to leave disappointed and questioning why the Millers aren't good bloggers, we humbly apologize.
Since our last post, we have seen quite a lot of activity. Last Thursday, we received word that our Travel Approval had been received! With this in hand our agency, Hope For Children, could begin arranging our Gotcha! Day and all the various appointments that are part of the process.
Today we received confirmation of the various dates. Our Gotcha! Day will either be in the afternoon of November 13th or the morning of November 14th. Because our adoption will take place fully in the Guangdong province (Sarah Beth is in a foster home--yes, this is also new information--about 30 miles outside of Guangzhou) we will be in Guangzhou for most of our trip. The only issue with this is that passport processing in every other province takes 5 business days, but in the Guangdong province it takes 8 business days (therefore, plus a weekend), meaning our two week stay is now going to be closer to three weeks.
We will actually fly out on November 9th to Beijing (arriving on the 10th) and spend a few days sightseeing. We are planning to visit the Great Wall, the Forbidden City, the Summer Palace, Tiananmen Square, and possibly some of the Olympic venues. Our US Consulate appointment will be on November 26th. We will take our oath on the 27th, and fly home on the 28th.
You have probably figured out that means we will be in China over Thanksgiving. While it will be disappointing that we cannot be with our family during this time, it seems so appropriate to be there thinking about what the Lord has done for us since he planted the seed of adoption so many years ago. As I look at the spirit of adoption that seems to be sweeping through many churches (including ours--Journey Fellowship) I cannot help but think that God is doing something big in this generation to reach many people in many different countries in the next generation.
