Since our last post we have scheduled Sarah Beth's palate repair surgery, had an ENT evaluation, and a hearing test. Sarah Beth will have surgery to repair her cleft palate on Thursday, April 17th. While she is under they will also insert tubes. It is pretty common for clefts to having ear issues. The hearing test went well and confirmed that she had some fluid in her ears that was dulling her hearing, but there is no indication of any permanent hearing loss.
This picture was taken this weekend (Easter weekend) when we were with our friends, the Powells, at Kentucky Dam Village State Park. With their 5 kids and our 4 it was an entertaining weekend. Unfortunately, there was something wrong with our lens, and all the pictures are blurred. Chad salvaged this one picture of Sarah Beth (who was hunting Easter eggs at the time). I also took pictures of Easter egg tye-dying that did not turn out. Sarah Beth loved it and she kept trying to feed her eggs to our dog, Molly! I am STILL finding food coloring in many different places around the kitchen!

We also had our early intervention evaluation last week and as we suspected, Sarah Beth qualifies for speech services, which we will be thrilled to receive. She was right on track developmentally but was at about a 15 month ability in speech. After her cleft surgery, she will start receiving speech weekly in our home. This works perfectly for us and we are so thankful not to have to take her out of the home environment and it helps with our home school day as well!
One highlight (not!!) of the last couple of weeks was SB's 911 call that brought the Bloomington police to our door. What will happen next in the Miller home?? It is quite crazy around here and Miss "Crazy Cakes" herself is right in the middle of it all. She is so busy, it makes my head spin.
Let's see...today she poured syrup all over the table after a breakfast of waffles, spit blueberries on the nice light colored family room carpet, dumped over Molly's water bowl and threw such a loud fit in the Library we had to leave! She makes your head swim!
We have been praying for wisdom on discipline and how to curb some of that energy into more appropriate things!! Help! A friend of mine who has adopted 3 brought over two books today for me. One is "Toddler Adoption", by Mary Hopkins-Best and the other is "The Post-Adoption Blues" by Karen J. Foli and John R. Thompson. She also brought over a whole set of Baby BumbleBee videos to help develop early language skills. Looking forward to some much needed advice!
We received some sad news today! The Harkness family will not be able to make their Illinois visit due to a conflict in Lucy's work schedule. Bummer! We are going to postpone until summer.

I would call it IRRITATING news that we can't come. I am SO BUMMED and so is the rest of the family. Hope it works out soon! Would love to see you all. Good to talk to you last week - nothing new to report. Trying to be patient and let things sink in...
Well glad to see you updating. Shelby's surgery is April 7 so be warned that I plan to be up front and honest about the surgery. Hopefully it won't be as bad as I think it will be. Shelby started her speech therapy a few weeks ago too. Funny how our girls are on the same road.
Sarah Beth and Danielle sound a lot a like - she gets into EVERYTHING too! I know exactly what you mean about your head spinning! It sure is exhausting - but I wouldn't trade her for the world! Glad to hear all is going well - we will pray for her surgery!
We will be praying for Sarh Beth's surgery and for her Mommy and Daddy! Amy will get her braces on April 17.
How did Joshua do in the spelling bee?
Amy got her pearls for Easter and loved them! She actually had not figured out that she was getting some, even though we had already given them to Rachael and Katie.

So glad to hear that things are starting to settle into "normal". Whatever that means! We think about you all of the time and get so tickled about your new toddler. I'm glad she has you jumping. She wouldn't be a toddler if she didn't. We'll be down "south" (although everything is south of Alaska!) for almost all of June and July. Please let me know if ya'll are coming back down sometime this summer. We'd love to drive to meet you somewhere.
Hello! I have always wanted to write to you and let you know that your daughter is one of the reasons that we have our beautiful baby girl from China home with us today. Several months ago as I was searching different waiting child sites, I came across the picture of your daughter and just kept going back to look those beautiful eyes. Around the same time that I saw your daughter's picture, I talked with a friend who has a cousin with cleft lip and palate. He is now a very successful attorney. Between hearing her story and seeing SB's picture (and reading your blog), we made the decision to adopt a child with special needs. We were matched with a baby girl from Chongqing in December and have been home one week with her....she is such a joy! Congratulations to you on SaraBeth!
